If an adult person's hands are more the size of a child's, can this pattern still work?

I have small hands and wrists (5 1/2"). I thought they would probably be too large. I am a tight knitter, however, and used size 0 needles. The cuff and hand fit me perfectly - and I actually had to add stitches to the fingers! I was amazed.
I would say it runs small - but that of course depends on your personal knitting gauge.
