Anyone still working on these? Just wondering if I am the only one that started but never finished them or if there are others in the same boat. One finger done, mitten raised, second finger made too long. I think I frogged it back and need to march on, any one to join me?

I had a bad case of second glove syndrome and left these languishing in the to do box with just two fingers and thumb needing doing, for an entire YEAR! But I've just had a sudden flush of enthusiasm and finished them...

I am back moving forward and stuck again. I am so brain dead, I am wondering why I ever thought I could knit these. ... I was farther than this when I frogged the first time. Yet that is before dad died, I had to bury him, make decisions for my mom, then she died, now I just have to finish cleaning their house out from 100miles away, get it sold and be trustee for the next 24 years, should the good Lord tarry that long.

As I was tinking back I kept saying this is so familiar, why can't I find it in the chart. So tonight when I picked it up again I said why not check the other chart dumby. Since I had only tink about 1 3/4 rows I checked the chart there and sure enough I found where I was. Woo Hoo! So I knit up though row 8 the second time though chart A. Now it is time to start the thumbs, fine. I see the directions for one thumb. I an missing where it says to make increases for the second thumb. Since I am a two at a time magic looper, I have to know how to do both before I can start row 9. maybe sleeping on it another night I will know what I am doing again when I pick it up again. I pray that is the case. Good night! =-)

The jusyAny one still here? I picked my gloves back up last night and could not find where I had left off in the pattern. Well I know I am in the part of the cuff I was doing a little different. I had lost the chart I had made for it. I tried to make another chart and was sure it was not the same. Then I found the original one I had made. So I finally put these back on the top of my to do list. Pulled them out at the wrestling meet and could not fine where I was. I was about 20 sts over in a row. Yet none of my rows started that way? I do not know what to do. I am thinking I meed to tink back to the last solid color row. Yet dreading the thought of doing that. I had picked them up while watching a movie over the holidays but thought it would take too much concentration! Now what should I do?

The July 21, 2007 post shows the change was was making in the cuff. it took going back a ways to find it.

Hi all!

You will never believe what arrived in the mail today! The "stolen" gloves that I worked so hard on last year. Yes, those beautiful gloves that I thought were gone forever came home! There was no letter of explanation except that they were mailed from the Co. Fair people.

I am speechless!! For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, take a look at the Hall of Fame--Sherry G. I exhibited those gloves in our county fair and when I went to pick them up, they were gone and no one had an explanation. Now, 6 months later, here they are!

I should be hitting new yarn soon. I am getting close to where I frogged from. I just hope what I just volunteered to do does not keep me from knitting. A friend is getting married in August and when she was here visiting a couple of weeks ago I offered to make her an something lace for her wedding. She was back this weekend. It looks like I will be making a tatted garter and a crochet flower girl basket. The good thing is I have made both patterns before. Yet I am having trouble finding the thread vendors tonight. Such is life.

i wore it for about 8 hours

It is hard to believe how time has flown. So I went digging back though the months of the blog to find what I was looking for. I found it. Now after taking some time [paper and pencil). I think I am going to make the diamonds like Hilla showed a picture of hers on June 8, 2007 between the snowflake cuffs and the thumb gusset snowflakes. I was not sure I cared for that part when I worked it the first time following the pattern. So that is where I am to date after frogging.

I did a pair of socks that seemed would never end, made 4 baby afghans (all different patterns), next I was asked to make a scarf that turning out barley making it's deadline, followed by 4 pairs of dull felted mittens. The first two were late, the other two had no deadline. After I finished dear youngest son asked for a pair and I said I needed a break from that pattern I would get them by next winter. So tonight watching and old Dick Van Dyke Disney movie Lt. Robin Crusoe I got up to this point for the second time. Moving forward again I hope. I did volunteer to make some things for an August wedding, if she takes me up on it I will have to put them aside to get done what I offered to do. (Tatting and crocheting)

Hello Dear Knitterly People!

I just published another pattern if you are looking for a quick easy knit! The "Chocolate Covered Cherries" photo shows my daughter's Valentine's gift and I am using the "Twinkle Stars" mitt to teach knitters how to embroider and embellish their knitting. This was a little break from color stranding (plus I needed some quick gifts), but I am working on a fair isle sock and on a steeking project/pattern and a top down saddle shoulder cardi and some toe up lace socks.....

Hi all -- I cast on my first glove last weekend and by Sunday evening was nearly to the big snowflake on the back of the hand.

I tried the described cast-ons, but those weren't working for me and I didn't feel like fiddling with it anymore, so I just did a single-color long tail cast-on and then added the second color when I did the braid beginning on the second row. I've been working a lot this week, so I haven't had much knitting time, but I expect to finish the snowflake/striped palm section this evening. Every member of my family had expressions like "Wow, that's gorgeous!" when they saw the glove-in-progress and each has requested a pair of their own. This is good because I was going to just get this pair underway and then stash it for vacation knitting on a trip in Feb., but since I can't seem to stop knitting them, I'll just go ahead with this pair knowing that I will have good reasons to make more!

Hi,

I justreceived Karen's patterns for the gloves and mitts and headband. I can hardly wait to start on them! However, I noticed that Karen uses Koigu KPPPM and KPM in her gloves. I know that Koigu KPPPM is a heavier fingering weight yarn than Opal or some other sock yarns. Will Opal work ok? I have an Opal Neon skein with purple, blue, turquoise and lime green that I think would make beautiful gloves, however I normally knit the Opal with Size 1 and 0 needles for socks, and with the Koigu (I'm knitting my first pair of Koigu socks) I am using Size 2 for the legs, and will use Size 1 for the feet. With the Opal I get 9 stitches per inch using size 0 needles.

Hi everyone! I'm Barb from Nebraska. I'm a work from home Mom and Grandma. I've been involved in sewing, cross stitch, knitting and crocheting and many other crafts since I was old enough to walk and talk... My Mom taught me how to sew and knit and my Grandma taught me how to crochet.

It's been about 20 years since I've knit anything! I saw a book of patterns for socks and decided to knit again... Then recently I found Karen's Hand Painted Gloves pattern on Etsy. I'm so excited! I haven't finished the socks yet, and have already started the gloves. LOL - I swore I wasn't going to do that! The projects are on different needles so I can work both...! RIGHT?

The largest town around me doesn't have much in the way of yarn, no specialty stores that I'm aware of... I got Busy Bee - Sweet Delight baby yarn from Hobby Lobby in Crayons Ombre and angel (white). So far so good...I've made a few mistakes in the first pattern chart but I'm not unknitting any more rows! LOL The guage is right on - I was worried about that... Since I took this picture, I've continued to knit and am now working the thumb gusset and back of hand and palm. Can't wait to get to the fingers! :) I've watched very closely to keep from making any more pattern chart mistakes... and they are looking good.

Where does everyone get their yarn from? My next pair (oh yeah...) will certainly be from some better yarns. Anyone with suggestions? There is a lot of fingering & sock yarn on Etsy, but which one???

I'll post a new picture later. I love all the color schemes I've seen so far. It's amazing how different each pair looks in different colorways. I really love that I can choose a chart for the fingers. That will be fun! Anyway, nice to meet and get to knit along with all of you! Barb

I fell in love with these mitts and gloves as soon as I saw them. I also just received some Kauni muticolor rainbow that I grabbed up becaused I love the way you can start at different points in the colorway for each of the 2 yarns - MC and CC and get such a neat effect. I am hoping this will also work in the smaller scale of these gloves. Has anyone else tried this? Krista GG

I have been spending a happy (obsessed???) few hours messing about with different combinations of yarn. This is like leaving a sweet shop with only one bag of sweeties!!!.

Anyway, narrowed it down to a solid and a varigated combination...(Yarnyard Nude and Yarnyard Fegrig)

or a solid and semi-solid ( Yarnyard Nude and Yarnyard Pillar box.

I'm Natalie and I live near Edinburgh in Scotland. Murdo found the patterns for these fabulous mitts and gloves on ravelry and sent the link to me, and she went one better than that and bought me the pattern as a gift.
I have always been a one WIP at a time person, but I'm planning to knit the mitts in no particular hurry, to enjoy the process of seeing them evolve slowly, rather than rushing to get them finished. I'm thinking of a solid yarn, maybe red or purple or green, and a Shetlandy semi solid as a textural contrast. Probably the one called Porage Oats in my online shop (if I'm allowed to say that).
I don't think I've ever seen such a beautifully written pattern. It's a real work of art.

Just had to join when I saw this KAL. The patterns are great and it was a huge decision which one to start on...mitts or gloves....looking like Mitts. Still choosing Yarns but will definitely be two Yarnyard Yarns...a semi solid and a solid. Exciting!!!

I am almost to get my invite to Ravelry, I dont need anything else to take me away from knitting, but maybe it will help me get organized so i quit buying needles i already have, ok so maybe it wont. I was trying to come up with a good name, the first one that popped in my head was crabbyknitter cos of my email address but that does not sound very friendly.

I think it would be cool to have us as a kal on their, may get more people interested, can we start a list of ravelry names on the left side like we have blogs.

sherry I am so sorry you dont have your gloves, that just plain sucks.

I started on mine finally but have not worked on them as I am working on xmas knitting right now. Mom keeps saying i wish it would get cold so i can wear my gloves, well she may get her wish this week.

Hi everyone!

Here's yarn for my second pair. Collinette Jitterbug in Monet combined with Tekking Pro Natura in a soft heathered green. Blends very nicely with the soft colors of the Monet. Probably won't get started until after the holidays.

There was some talk of a hat. Will that happen? Is there a way to predict how many yards/ounces will be required for each yarn (for a hat)?

I've started another pair of these wonderful gloves recently. These will be for our daughter, Amanda.

Amanda chose the colors. The yarn is Mountain Colors Barefoot in the Woodlands and GoldRush colorways.

Even though the pattern isn't as ditinct in these colors, Amanda still wants me to continue and the colors are definitely beautiful!

Today I got a couple more rows done on my gloves. They are crawling along on my second start. I am now row 8 of the first snow flake. I will have to see if I am getting the correct gage this time when I get through the first chart. However, I am trying to finish a pair of socks for sixsoxKAL, my gloves and I promised a lady on another KAL blog I would work along with her on a KAL I started a year ago! Scary how much I spent on the yarn for these two that I seem to drag my feet on. Time to whip them up. I am still here plugging away. My goal is to have them done by the time I need them.

Tracey, good luck with your move, maybe at 110 you can use the gloves to keep your hands from getting sunburned.

I was supposed to g0 see the Yarn Harlot Sunday in Wichita, Kansas (who on earth put her there and not here in KC is beyond me.) I had tickets, etc, but one of my mom's kids from her Sunday School class saw her out, he loves her, gave her a big bear hug from behind and she wrenched her back. So I did not get to go, maybe next time she can come here or things will allow me to go see her. I checked her blog and looks like we missed a good time. I was gonna see if she would join our kal.

I know I owe a picture of my current gloves for myself and I need to finish my Halloween gloves and will post them cos Halloween is not that far away. If work plans go as I hope I will be in Salen for Halloween, can't get any better than that.

I have to admit I have been gone for the past month and have not been on here much, but the gloves being finished are beautiful, I have to say i would be honored to wear everyone that has been posted. I started on MY pair in black/salmon, will try to post pictures this week.

Nice to see Tracey finishing those gloves for that 110 temps, maybe the gloves can keep you from getting sunburnt on your hands, anyway stay in touch Tracey, where is Qatar, must get my maps out.

I am going to see the Yarn Harlot on Sunday, she will be in Wichita at my dad's old high school so I will definitely be writing about that. My mom and her friend are going, they dont knit but they felt a road trip was in order, maybe I c an conver them. Mom is taking her gloves and I am gonna see if I can get the Harlot to join our group, socks/gloves they are kind of the same aren't they, both small projects that can be a challenge. I also plan to take one of my socks from the sockstars group or my gloves or both. Since I am driving it kind of cuts into my knitting time but it is for a good cause.

Now, I swear I wasn't keeping this glove on the needles just for the sake of photographing it in front of the Persian Gulf. No - I am actually that lame, starting glove #2 in April, and still not finished in September. Well, there has been other stuff going on..... like moving over here.

I said I wouldn't let myself post until they were both done, but I couldn't resist going for the most-travelled glove-in-progress award. Now I'll get back to work on it (now that I'm living in 110 degree weather - sheesh!) I may have to change my comment ID, from TracyinKansas to Tracy inQatar :)

At Last!

I've finally finished the second glove. Hallelujah! I have learnt so much doing these and the second one fits me much better than the first as I had the confidence to ignore the pattern instructions and amend them to fit my chunky little hands.

There are a couple of things I would change - the way the fingers are finished (I don't like the lumpiness of the 8 stitches drawn together and will look for another method for future use) and the severity of the thumb shaping. If you look at the right hand thumb you will see what it looked like when I followed the instructions and it looks quite pointed. On the left hand I changed the shaping and I think it looks much better. So much so that I am going to rip the right hand thumb and do it like the left.

My tension also has changed between the 2 gloves. On the first one it was much looser whilst I got used to the 2 handed FairIsle technique. I haven't blocked them yet so they still look a bit lumpy but overall I am very pleased.

That just plain sucks that someone stole your gloves, I hope they are just misplaced although they are beautiful and I could see someone wanting them. They did not place, how wrong is that, well some people have no eye for talent. I am so sorry. Let's get a posse together and see if we can find your gloves.

The County Fair!

You may be wondering why there is a pair of socks pictured here! Well, let me explain. These are my entries in the County Fair which ended last Sunday.

The socks are the "Eleanore" pattern with a picot edge top. The gloves you recognize as the gloves I knit for this KAL. The socks received First Place in the "slippers" category (since there was no sock category).

Don't misunderstand, I'm very pleased with the socks but I didn't have very high expectations for them. On the other hand, I did expect to get something for the gloves. The down side is that they had to go into an "other" category which is never good (you can't even guess what your competition is). The gloves got nothing--zip! I was surprised at that!

Rubbing salt in the wounds, they lost the gloves!!! They were no where to be found in a rather small (as fairs go) building. I'm hoping that they got folded into someones quilt or something and whoever it is will be honest and return them to the fair. I am very unhappy.

Gloves and Yarn Harlot

I went to hear the Yarn Harlot last Thursday and brought my glove as my project, many many oooohs and ahhhs..I finished the 4th finger on the first glove which then of course reminded me how much I love doing the glove so the fifth finger is done as well. Hoping to cast on for the second glove this weekend. I have yarn already for the second pair. I will post pics perhaps next Monday as I am working many mnay hours over the next 6 days (79)

In case you need something else to go with the fabulous gloves we are all making, in the Interweave Felt Issue that just hit the stands there is an ad from Tahki Stacey Charles with a snowflake purse and the Fall issue of Interweave Knits has a pattern for snowflake socks. So we now have an excuse to not only buy more magazines and yarn but to accessorize these gloves. Don't forget to post your pictures and any issues, joys, etc to share for the class to be taught at The Studio in September. BTW they had a huge gumball sale one day, the color of the gumball got you a certain percentage off (I got 40%) and the lady in front of me had our glove patten with a vibrant red and black, I cant wait to see them, i told her about the blog so hopefully she will join and post pictures.

I am suppsed to go to LA in a couple of weeks and I finally found a black and salmon color to make my gloves out of, so that will be one project I am taking with me.

It should have ended that I learned a lot from my mistakes.
The thumb has way to many stitches for me and the suggested decrease makes it look of center.Are there any suggestions out there how to rectify this problem?Unfortunately, I cannot change to much on my second glove but I will have to knit another pair for my dd. and would like for it to look better.

Change Spacing Of Twist If You Knit Tight

I discovered I knit tight enough with two colors I can not use the same knit two, twist each time as when I was working on the star on the back of the hand. I had little waves on the back. I need to change back and forth between at least two spacings when I get that far the second time.

Living in Iowa a long cuff can be a good thing a very good thing. As you want gloves up your sleeve overlapping so you do not feel the winds when they are strong at times freezing a gap. ;-) I am only going to shorten it a little bit.

Plugging Along Again

I found that doing two color work in two hands tights up my gage a lot! So I have went up to a size 3 U.S. Addi hoping my gage will finally be the 8 stitches to the inch we need for the pattern. I started with a U.S. 1 I found I was getting 11 sts to the inch. I think I may shorten the area in the cuff between the snow flakes, not sure yet though.

I just finished the ribbing on the cuff for the second time.

Gloves done! Love 'em! They are off to the county fair tomorrow! This was a challenge--but a R-E-A-L-L-Y fun one! I hope all of you are having as much fun with this as I have.

Yarn: Colinette Jitterbug in toscana colorway; Universal Pace in cream colorway. I used 1 skein each (but not whole skeins). There were knit on two circs (KnitPicks Options, size 2) up to the fingers and then, I bit the bullet and sprung for a set of Lantern Moon Sox Stix to do the fingers--LIFESAVERS!!! All of the fingers are different and the thumbs match.

This was my first pair of gloves. Thanks for a great KAL!

I just got off the phone with Karen and she said yes she is teaching the glove as a class, so we need to get our gloves and any problems, hints, etc on the blog so she can show the class and they can learn from our experiences and be inspired by the beautiful work you all have done. She also told me I need to post my one glove I have done. I am envious of people like karen who can come up with beauties such as the gloves, so I thought I can do that, yea right. I sat down one day and made charts, etc and thought I needed a pair of Halloween gloves which is my FAV day of the year. Dear GW: I figure I can call you that since you are the President and I work for the FAA, technically you are my boss through a bunch of other bosses. Anyway I write to you today to tell you that instead of some of the stupid laws you are working on you need to consider making knitting a legal addiction. As I was driving to work today the DJ's were interviewing a dishwasher from Sweden. His government has dictated he is legally addicted to heavy metal music. They pay him 20% of his salary (omg the yarn I could buy with that much money each month), he gets his birthday and Ozzie's birthday off (I would settle for my birthday and Karen's birthday off), he gets to listen to his music at work as loud as he wants. I will settle for 15 minutes/hour to knit. They asked him what happens if he does not get to listen to his music, he said he gets aggressive. Well I am telling you right now if I dont get to knit at work I may stab one of these engineers with my metals, don't want blood on my bamboos. I promise to work real hard the other 45 minutes of each hour.

Well, I am a slow knitter and this has taken me forever but I've finally finished the little finger I had so much trouble with. Encouraged, I managed to do another one too and it didn't seem half as difficult. I found the first one really fiddly to do but this one was easier because I was more confident and adjusted the shaping to suit my chubby fingers.

Now I'm gaining in confidence with the process I suspect that the second glove will be executed much neater than this one. It's been a very useful learning exercise for FairIsle technique, tension and making gloves.

If I am reading my newsletter from The Studio right, the gloves are now a class you can take. So those of you have not posted your gloves please do so as we need to get them in the Hall of Fame. They will also be telling the class members about our kal. Also if you experienced any problems, worked out some issues, etc. please post them so the class can have the benefit of our testing the pattern so to speak. The class starts 9/16, so we still have three months to knit, frog, knit, frog, etc.etc.etc. Everyone's gloves are beautiful and I need to finish an exchange and start back on a pair for myself. Don't forget if you are having problems please post them so we can try and figure out what is going on.

Frog Time!

UGH!

Life throws me another curve ball every time I turn around these days. So yesterday I tried on my gloves on and they were tight. So I decided to check my gage today. Time to Frog! Gages is supposed to be 9 sts. per inch on 0's right? Well I am getting 11 sts. per inch on size ones. So I believe I will have to frog. I did remember that first time I did this kind of two color work my gage was tighter so I was working on 1's for this. I am thinking I should skip to size 3's to get close to 9 sts. per inch. Ugh. I will frog tomorrow, likely at ball practice. I was up to 21 sts of increse on he gusset when I stopped to check.

The first time I did a fair isle pattern my stitches turned out tight or tighter than I could wear. I tried theses on twice today as I am making the thumb gusset. They seemed too tight. I did go up a size in needle remembering I thought I should next time when I tried it last time. Still They are very tight. I hope I do not have to frog. I wonder when I should decide. Does any one else find there gage tighter doing the two strands one in each hand?

This will be my 3rd attempt at getting the little finger right. The first time I didn't like the way pattern worked out, so I ripped it. This time I'm happy with the pattern but it's too tight around the base of my finger, uncomfortably so.

Anyway, I thought I'd at least take a photo to show my progress on the body. This time I'll get it just right! (fingers crossed).

I managed to finish the gloves today. I could have done so last night, but I think I ripped out that left thumb three times during the fourth quarter of the Cavs/Pistons game. Couldn't concentrate. The thumb was finished up this afternoon, but not before I ran out of the yellow yarn! You can see a little tip of blue on the left thumb that represents those three rows.

The gloves are gorgeous, but it's now 75 degrees, so I guess they get stowed until this fall. That is, after everyone I know fondles them first!

These gloves have been haunting me since JoAnn showed me hers. It is so hard to believe that "stash yarn" was not working..... I finally have the right yarn. Celestial Merino. I have brown and dark green for the "plain" areas and a variegated reddish to oppose it. With luck I will get something cast on for you all to see this week.

Well here they are. And I just have to say it, modesty aside, I love my gloves! The weather has turned to winter over night here so I'm going to wear them today. Mind you even if it was belting hot, I think I'd still want to wear them! On the ring finger of the left hand, I put the initials of my husband and children. I have loved knitting with this yarn (Posh Yarn's Emily) and am going off now to cast on for a pair of socks. But they won't be half as much fun as the gloves were.
